As summer 2026 comes to a close, Spain once again proved why it remains one of Europe’s most desirable destinations.
From long Mediterranean evenings and vibrant coastal cities to world-class gastronomy, iconic beach clubs and a lifestyle built around the outdoors, the summer season captured everything that makes the country so distinctive.
Across the Costa del Sol, the Balearic Islands and beyond, international visitors returned in force. At the same time, Spain continued to strengthen its position as a destination not only for holidays, but for lifestyle, investment and long-term living.
As we move into the final months of the year, the energy of summer remains, and so does Spain’s growing international appeal.
July 19: Spain Are World Champions
The defining moment of the summer happened five thousand kilometers away, and you could still feel it on every terrace from San Pedro to Cabopino.
On Sunday 19 July, Spain faced defending champions Argentina in the World Cup final at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey. It was a grinding, nervous match, goalless through ninety minutes and deep into extra time, with Argentina visibly steering the game toward penalties. Then Ferrán Torres headed in the only goal of the night. Spain 1, Argentina 0. A second world title, and a 20-year-old Lamine Yamal ending Messi’s reign at 39.
What followed in Marbella needs no exaggeration. Avenida Ricardo Soriano became a symphony of car horns. Puerto Banús emptied of the restaurants and onto the quay. The Plaza de los Naranjos in the Old Town saw more people at 2 am than most Saturdays see all evening. Red shirts stayed on for days.
It is the kind of night that gives a place a story, and stories are, quietly, part of what people are buying into when they buy on this coast.
The Numbers: Marbella Sold Out
The feeling that this summer was busier than usual holds up in the data.
99% occupancy entering August. According to booking platform eBooking.com, Marbella hit 99% of rooms booked for the 31 July–2 August weekend — the first major getaway weekend of the Spanish holiday season. That figure covers hotels, hostels, campsites, tourist apartments and other holiday rentals, so it reflects the whole accommodation market, not just the five-star names on the Golden Mile.
Ahead of the national average. The average for Spain’s leading sun-and-beach destinations was 95.6%. Marbella sat comfortably above it, alongside Santander (98%), Benidorm (97%) and Salou (97%). Palma de Mallorca was the only destination analyzed below 90%, at 88%. With late bookings still coming in, forecasters expected technical full occupancy for the opening days of August.
Starlite: Nine Weeks of Reasons to Be Here
The summer’s cultural anchor returned to the Cantera de Nagüeles. Starlite’s fifteenth edition ran from 19 June to 29 August, with roughly 49 concert nights across the season.
The 2026 line-up was among its strongest: Lenny Kravitz in late June, Maroon 5 on 7 July, Deep Purple on the 9th, Rick Astley on the 10th, plus John Legend, Diana Krall, Nile Rodgers & CHIC, Jean-Michel Jarre, Gipsy Kings, Kool & the Gang, Juan Luis Guerra, Ozuna, Ara Malikian and Yandel Sinfónico.
The venue remains the draw, a former quarry ringed by sixty-meter rock walls around a 3,500-seat auditorium. Intimate enough to see the artist properly, produced to international standard.
Worth noting for buyers looking in Nagüeles, Sierra Blanca and the upper Golden Mile: proximity to Starlite is a genuine rental selling point across the summer, and the quarry setting means the noise stays largely contained within it.

Summer 2026 has been nothing short of extraordinary for Marbella. From record-breaking occupancy and unforgettable events to a summer filled with energy, culture and international attention, the Costa del Sol has once again shown why it holds such a unique place on the European map.
As the long summer evenings slowly come to an end, we’ll certainly miss them. But if this season has shown us anything, it is that Marbella’s momentum is far from slowing down. International demand continues to grow, the lifestyle continues to attract buyers from around the world, and the foundations are already being laid for another exceptional year.
