The best beach clubs in Marbella: where to spend your summer on the sand

CONTENT

There is a moment, somewhere around two in the afternoon in July, when Marbella reveals exactly what it is. The sea turns a flat, unhurried blue, a DJ eases into something warm and low, and the terraces begin to fill with people who have absolutely nowhere else to be. This is beach club season, the heart of the Marbella summer, and few places on the Mediterranean do it with more style.

Beach clubs are not simply restaurants with a view. They are the social stage on which the coast performs: long lunches that drift into sunset, chilled rosé, barefoot glamour, and food that ranges from grilled-that-morning simplicity to genuinely serious cooking. For anyone who lives here, or is thinking about it, they are part of the rhythm of the season.

Below is our guide to the beach clubs that define a Marbella summer, and just as importantly, what you’ll actually be eating at each one.

Chiringuito at Puente Romano: the Golden Mile classic

If there is one address that captures the effortless side of Marbella luxury, it is the Chiringuito at Puente Romano, right on the Golden Mile. Voted Spain’s Best Beach Club by Condé Nast Traveler, it sits on the sand at the centre of a resort that also houses Nobu, Cipriani and COYA, so you are in remarkable company.

The kitchen: relaxed, refined Mediterranean built around the sea. Think plant-forward breakfasts, seafoods, and locally catched fish on an open fire. It’s polished but never stiff: the kind of place you arrive at in linen and leave from at golden hour. For anyone living on the Golden Mile, this is the local canteen you never tire of.

Ocean Club: glamour in Puerto Banús

Ocean Club is Marbella at full volume. Nine thousand square metres of loungers, palm trees and a legendary pool in the heart of Puerto Banús, it is the address most associated with the coast’s famous Sunday parties and champagne-spray afternoons.

The kitchen: its restaurant, Amaï, is where Mediterranean freshness meets pan-Asian creativity under chef Andreas Nygren. Expect sushi presented on black slate, seared blue-fin tuna with Singapore-style crab, and beautifully grilled meats, all backed by a wide-ranging wine list and a cocktail bar with a serious following. Come for the scene; stay because the food genuinely holds up.

Nikki Beach: the original, in Elviria

Nikki Beach, located in Elviria, Marbella, is known for pioneering the modern beach club concept. Established as a tribute to Jack’s beloved daughter, Nicole, who tragically passed away in a car accident at 18, the venue embodies the philosophy of ‘Celebrating Life,’ inspired by her vibrant spirit.

With its all-white décor, Nikki Beach offers a unique blend of international cuisine, music, dining, entertainment, fashion, and film. The club creates an inviting atmosphere that appeals to an affluent clientele, featuring signature white beds, white flowers, and a lively ambiance. Its famous Sunday sessions encapsulate the essence of a “celebration of life,” making it a distinct destination rooted in the legacy of a cherished daughter.

The kitchen: a global menu that borrows from Nikki Beach outposts around the world and grounds it all in the Mediterranean, courtesy of executive chef Santiago Zucchi. Sushi, generous sharing plates, light pinsas, big colourful salads and rosé by the magnum: food designed for a long, slow lunch that stretches into the evening.

La Cabane: Dolce & Gabbana glamour at Los Monteros

Set within the Los Monteros resort about ten minutes east of the centre, La Cabane is where design and gastronomy meet at the very top of the coast’s ambitions. The space was reimagined by Dolce & Gabbana: an infinity pool that melts into the sea, Balinese beds, and a terrace that seems to float above the waves.

The kitchen: carries the unmistakable signature of Michelin-starred chef Dani García, under the motto “Il piacere di mangiare.” Expect a love letter to the Mediterranean woven through with Italian richness: salmon-and-caviar pizza, fusilli alla nerano, truffle risotto, and San Daniele melon with Parma ham. It is arguably the most fashion-forward table on the sand.

La Plage Casanis: the French Riviera comes to Marbella

Created by the acclaimed Casanis Group, La Plage Casanis brings a touch of the Côte d’Azur to the sands of El Rosario, just east of Marbella. Whitewashed wood, designer furnishings and palm-shaded daybeds set a laid-back but distinctly elevated tone, and its Sunday Sunset Sessions draw hundreds of regulars week after week.

The kitchen: a Mediterranean grill with a strong French accent. A wood-fired grill turns out smoky, generous plates of fresh seafood and premium cuts, paired with a carefully chosen wine list. It’s the most Riviera-feeling club on this list: sophisticated, sun-drenched and made for lingering.

Sublim Beach: barefoot luxury toward Estepona

For something a little quieter, head west to Sublim Beach on Laguna Beach, between Marbella and Estepona. A sleek beachfront infinity pool opens toward the horizon, flanked by sunbeds and Balinese-style daybeds: the more serene end of the beach club spectrum, without sacrificing any of the polish.

The kitchen: seasonal, locally sourced Mediterranean cooking that pays tribute to the region’s produce and its seafood heritage. It’s the club to choose when you want the daybed, the swim and the long lunch, minus the crowds.

How to do beach clubs like a local

A few things worth knowing before you go, especially in high season:

  • Book ahead. In July and August the best clubs, and the best beds, some days in advance. Sunset tables are the first to go.
  • Understand the minimum spend. Sunbeds and daybeds usually carry a minimum consumption, higher on weekends and front-row positions. Budget accordingly.
  • Go midweek for calm, weekends for the scene. A Tuesday lunch and a Sunday party are two very different experiences, both worth having.
  • Dress smart-casual. Swimwear at the beds, but most clubs expect you to cover up (and step it up) at the restaurant.
  • Skip the parking stress. Summer parking near the seafront is punishing, so take a taxi or use valet where it’s offered.

Living where the summer happens

What every one of these clubs has in common is location: they cluster along the stretch of coast between Puerto Banús, the Golden Mile and Marbella’s eastern beaches, the same stretch where life here is at its most effortless.

That is not a coincidence. At RGZ Developers, we design homes in the parts of Marbella where this kind of life is closest to your front door. Our AIDA duplexes, furnished by Bentley Home, and our Ocho de Oro villas with Versace Home interiors sit within minutes of the Golden Mile and Nueva Andalucía, close enough that a spontaneous lunch by the sea, a sunset cocktail, or a lazy Sunday on a daybed becomes part of your everyday, not a holiday.

Because the real luxury of Marbella isn’t visiting the best beach clubs on the coast. It’s living close enough to make them your local.

Thinking about a home where the Marbella summer is always within reach? Let’s talk.
